We hope everyone has had a wonderful summer! As we transition into the fall season, we’re excited to share a few updates and opportunities to come together as a community.
Annual Meeting Rescheduled
Our annual meeting, originally set for October 11th, has been rescheduled to October 25th at 3:30 PM in the park. Please bring a chair, and we look forward to seeing you there!
Community Workday – October 11th
Join us for a Community Workday on October 11th at 9:00 AM in the park, hosted by our Landscape Committee. We’ll be working together to spruce up our shared spaces. Tasks include:
- Applying mulch to beds and trails
- Weeding the trail
- Removing the Crepe Myrtle at the entrance
- Pressure washing the basketball court
Tools Needed: Shovels, pitchforks, rakes, wheelbarrows, chainsaws, gloves, eye protection, and bug spray. Come for as long as your schedule allows—every bit of help makes a difference!
Fall Landscape Tips:
With cooler weather on the way, now’s the time to prepare your yard for fall and winter. Here are some tips to keep your landscape thriving:
- Aerate and Overseed Fescue Lawns: Core aerate and overseed fescue lawns now using 4-6 lbs of quality fescue seed per 1,000 sq. ft. (8 lbs for bare areas). Water well before and after seeding until germination (7-10 days). Use pine straw to maintain moisture, but avoid wheat straw due to weed seeds.
- Plant Fall Flowers: Starting around October 15th, replace summer flowers with pansies or violas. Pansies need regular deadheading, while violas require less maintenance. Use 2.25 plants per sq. ft. (e.g., 34 plants for a 15 sq. ft. bed) and fertilize with products like Miracle-Gro® or Osmocote® for strong winter growth.
- Prevent Winter Weeds: Apply pre-emergent to Bermuda or Zoysia lawns now to prevent weeds like Poa annua. Avoid pre-emergent on fescue lawns to protect new seedlings.
- Add Pine Straw: After leaf season (around Thanksgiving), apply pine straw to beds (1 bale covers 35 sq. ft.) to reduce weeds and protect plants
